Armenian-Bulgarian pianist Varta Tchakarian has performed in Bulgaria, the Netherlands, France, Canada,
and the United States. She toured Canada and the United States with V.A.V. Piano Trio, winner of the State
and Regional MTNA Competition. Ms. Tchakarian won the De Bose National Piano Competition and the
Susan L. Tajra Foundation Piano Prize, Paris, France, and was granted the first prize in numerous
competitions in her native country. As a founding member of the Tchakarian Duo, she has been actively
performing in different venues, including Weill Hall at Carnegie. Her interest in chamber music led her to
attend Kniesel Hall and The Perlman Music Program  where she worked with such prominent musicians as
Itzhak Perlman, Donald Weilerstein, Vivian Weilerstein, Paul Katz, Merry Peckham, Seymour Lipkin, Jane
Coop, Marian Hahn, Ronald Copes, and Katherine Murdock.

Ever since her arrival in the US, Ms. Tchakarian has shown interest in educating. While working on her Master’
s degree at the Juilliard School she was chosen for a Morse Fellow and as a result became an Artist-Educator
at PS 166 for the 2004-2005 academic year. Ms. Tchakarian was on the faculty of The Music Academy at
Louisiana State University and The Piano School of NYC. Following her position as a piano teacher at Belvoir
Terrace Fine Arts Camp, she was invited to return as a Chairperson of the Piano and Instrumental
Department. Ms. Tchakarian is the Founder and Director of Varta Academy of Musical Arts. She also serves
as a member of the piano faculty.
Ms. Tchakarian began piano lessons at the age of 4. She attended the Bulgarian National Academy and later received her Bachelor of Music
degree from Louisiana State University, graduating summa cum laude. She holds a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School.
